ARTIST STATEMENT...
When I found watercolor, it
was like discovering an overstuffed chair
made just for me. I fell in love the minute
that color hit the wet paper. Then the
struggle of painting "meaningful subject
matter" began to eat at me. What should a
Believer in Jesus paint? I began to really
seek the Lord on this. He reminded me how
much my husband loves for my daughter to want
to be with him, to be like him. I believe that
when I paint a flower or a tree I am saying,
"Daddy, I like what you did, here... see,
I did it too!" When my daughter hands me
her painting of our family, or her cat, I love
it. It does not matter what it looks like. It
is the relationship that matters. Next there
is the matter of being a "skilled
musician"-being good at what I do. I take
seriously that I must study and work hard at
becoming a really good artist-that is -good at
being able to communicate through my art the
things that God is speaking to me. I am still
in process. I will never be finished with this
journey. Thirdly, I feel it my responsibility
and pleasure to bring others along with me. My
art is greatly influenced by the other artists
around me, churched and unchurched. And I pray
that my art greatly influences all who see it.
